What’s up with Up for Grabs?

As some of you may know, I’ve been working on an ebook for Circlet, Up for Grabs.  Some of you, especially people with stories in it, will be wondering where it is.  Never fear!

I packed up the edited stories and sent them back to Circlet.  But Circlet is small, and Up for Grabs has been waiting for someone to take up the production duties.  Instead of waiting I spent part of Thursday learning to use a thoroughly obsolete page layout program running under MacOS 9 to assemble the ebook.

Then we caught a couple of breaks.  It’s really hard for any normal human to proof the same piece of text more than once.  The authors have read their stories several times.  I’ve read their stories several times.  Likely suspects were busy, or we no longer had their contact information.  Cecilia sent out a twitter asking for a volunteer, and we had one in short order.  I expect this brave proofreader to have the manuscript combed over shortly.

The next break was even sweeter.  Circlet works with four ebook distributors.  Each of them uses a different format.  In the past this has meant an lot of painstaking work hand-formatting the manuscript for each distributor.  Cecilia found a web site that will take a document and spit out all of the major ebook formats for us, thus saving us days of work.
